Atlas
Atlas began as the Atlas Tool Company in 1924 founded by Stephan Schaffan, Sr. in New Jersey, the United States. His son, a modeling hobbyist, came to work for his father and started to design model railway tracks, joiners, turnouts and flexible track. They quickly became very popular and the fast-growing company built their first factory in 1947. Apart from tracks, rolling stock and plastic building kits, Atlas began to venture into the locomotive market in the 1970s and 80s with N, HO and O scale models made by Rivarossi in Italy, Roco in Austria, as well as Kato in Japan. In the early 1990s, the Atlas Tool Co. changed its name to Atlas Model Railroad Company, Inc.
