Diesel locomotive class 132 of the DR, wheel arrangement Co-Co for heavy passenger and freight services. In the late 1950s the RGW decided to build a large diesel locomotive in Romania and Russia. Conforming to the requirements of the DR, the locomotive works Woroschilovgrad decided on a diesel locomotive of a construction earlier realized for the SZD and presented is as a new class 130. Series production was started in 1970. By changing the gear ratios, a freight locomotive was realized and placed in service as class 131. Based on experience with classes 130 and 131, the design of class 132 was finalized. The entire frame and superstructure design was reworked, since this was the only way to gain room for the train heating equipment. Maximum speed was set at 120 km/h, the power output was 3000 HP. Due to the decline in freight traffic after the German reunification, many diesel locomotives of classes 130, 131 and 132 became surplus.

The engine of class 132 (since Jan. 1, 1992 class 232) were successively rebuilt into class 134 using the 140 km/h bogies of the deactivated class 130. This rework also affected the external appearance of the locos, especially as far as the ventilators, the roof armatures and the arrangement of the engine room windows was concerned. As part of this rework the motors were also changed. The actual V 232 was built in 1973.
