Two Bavarian EG 4X1/1 locomotives still existed after the First World War and were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn, Bavaria district management. From 1923 the complicated designation was replaced by the simpler EG, and from 1926 onwards the DRG assigned them the E series.
The two locomotives were always based in Freilassing, and in addition to their regular route they were also used for shunting purposes in Salzburg.
Apparently the DRG was very happy with them, because they only went out of service in 1937 and 1941.
One of the two locomotives was converted into a snow plow, which continued to provide faithful service for many years.
