The eleven class E 10 12-13 "Rheingold" locomotives placed into service from 1962 to 1964 were followed starting in 1968 by another 20 units as class 112 for TEE service. These locomotives were given the new class designation 114 starting in 1988, after the maximum speed was limited to 140 km/h (approx. 88 mph).
