Originally constructed for the German Reichsbahn (class 94) in 1940, 44 units were consigned to the newly-organized Austrian Federal Railways in 1945 and were renumbered 1020.01 through 1020.44. In 1955 three additional engines were built in Vienna. Originally painted green, these workhorses were later garbed in orange. Note also the new ÖBB logo.
