Additional information

German Federal Railroad (DB) class 012. Metal boiler. 3 axles powered. 2 traction tires. Electronic reverse unit. Fine spoked wheels with oxidized wheel treads. Length over buffers 27.8 cm (10-15/16").

In 1937 the German State Railroad ordered 55 class 01.10 streamlined steam locomotives, one of the most powerful German steam locomotives. In 1945 the streamlined fairing was removed to facilitate maintenance on these units. In the 1950s welded, high-efficiency boilers were installed and 34 locomotives of this class were converted to oil firing. This enabled these rebuilt locomotives to reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87.5 mph) that was competitive compared to diesel and electric locomotives. Several of these express locomotives were saved from the scrap heap. One is presently located in England of all places.

Note: Before 1993 this locomotive with the same product number had different lettering.
