The legendary class 10 express locomotive was placed into service in 1957. At 3,000 hp it was the most powerful German express steam locomotive. It reached its maximum speed of 140 km/h (87.5 mph) even with a train of 600 metric tons. As delivered in 1957 the 10 001, the prototype of our Märklin model, was coal fired with supplemental oil firing for peak performance. In everyday service these units were outstanding, even with daily runs of over 1,000 kilometers (625 miles). The general changes taking place in motive power on the railroad at that time resulted in only two of this class being built.
This locomotive was produced as a one-time series only for Märklin Insider members in 1999.
